Warnington Lane Circular, via Branton, Auckley and Hayfield Lakes 3.7 miles (New)

Wednesday July 13th

This walk follows the route for one which is on the internet, via ‘Local Explorer’, entitled ‘Auckley to Branton Circular Walk’. Instead of starting in Auckley, our route will begin at the entrance to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Warnington Lane, going along the road to the park, and continuing down Brockholes Lane to Branton, then turning right along the B3196 to Auckley. We leave the main road at Bell Butts Lane, just past the ‘Eagle and Child’ pub. The lane turns into a footpath, and we turn left where it breaks to go behind the quarry. Full details are in the Neighbourhood Centre. After crossing fields and going through woods, the 2nd of which is marked ‘Insley Plantation’, the route crosses the railway line. The path follows the tree line to the Hayfield Fishing Lakes. We walk between the lakes and follow the path back to Warnington Lane.
Meet at the entrance to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. (Parking possible on Hatchelwood View)

Cantley Park and Sandall Wood Beat (3.6 miles)

Wednesday July 27th
From Cantley Park Pavillion take tree-lined path to allotments, turn left around them into wood, then cross a bridge, follow path and cross the railway bridge into Sandall Beat Wood. Steps are steep, so walk can be shortened at this point to avoid the railway bridge. Full details of this walk can be found on the DMBC website, under ‘Get Doncaster Walking’, and there will be a copy in the Neighbourhood Centre.
Meet at Cantley Park Pavillion, where there is a car park. No. 57 bus passes the entrance to the park.

Warren Wander and Rossington Ramble - (A variation on 2 previous walks)

Wednesday August 10th

From Warren Lane, go past Warren Wood, over the M18, turn right and follow the footpath, taking the right fork towards the motorway until you reach the bridge over the water. Take the cycle path to the left towards Rossington. When you reach the main road, turn left towards the Stirrup Pub. You can then either (i) walk back all the way along the cycle path to Warren lane, (ii) catch a bus from Rossington to Warren Lane, or (iii) continue left along Sheep Bridge Lane until you come to Littleworth Lane on the right. Cross over and walk down Littleworth Lane to Bawtry Road where you can catch a bus back to Warren Lane.
Meet at the top of Warren Lane (on Bawtry Road opposite Plumpton Park Road).

King’s Wood / Austerfield Walk (3.4 miles)

Wednesday August 17th

From the car park, follow path nearest to road in Doncaster direction. Leave the wood to walk along pavement towards Doncaster in order to cross over the railway line. Then climb the stile back into the wood. Take the path by the field and walk to the right. Follow the path to bottom, round to the left and up a small rise. Go left through orange steel gateway and take path to the right over heathland. Where the path forks, take the right-hand path, and then at the next fork take the left-hand path. This comes to a road – cross over, down a slope and take left-hand path. Turn right at seat and go up bank. There is an information board at the top. Turn left onto path which comes to the main road alongside Austerfield Field Centre. Turn right along the road, passing St Helena’s Church on your left, until you come to Bawtry Carbon Works on the right. Take the sign-posted footpath to the right by the works until you reach the path back to King’s wood.
Meet at King’s Wood car park. No. 99 bus goes from Bawtry Road and stops outside the car park.

Programme subject to change. Each Stroll may be varied to suit the participants.
Please wear suitable clothing, and strong shoes or boots, as footpaths may be muddy.
